Maintenance

What to look at daily, weekly and periodically — and what you are actually looking for on each component.

This section states no threshold values. Discard criteria, torque, lubricants and intervals are specific to your machine and your equipment, and are in the manufacturer’s documentation, on the equipment certificate and in the report from sakkyndig kontroll. Here you learn the method and what a fault looks like — not when something is condemned.

Note too that the annual inspection is not the operator’s job: sakkyndig kontroll is carried out by an independent certified body. See regulations.

Daily

The daily check

What you go through before the first lift, and why it is not paperwork.

Weekly

The weekly check

What the daily check has no time for, but which cannot wait a year.

Periodic / sakkyndig

Components

Hooks

Safety catch, throat opening and wear — and why a hook is never straightened.

Bolt inspection

Where bolts loosen, how to spot it without a torque wrench, and who tightens them.

Lubrication

What lubrication actually tells you — beyond something being less dry.

Snow and ice

Added load, lost grip, and why falling ice is the most dangerous part.

Checklists

To print, or to use on a phone in the cab. Ticks are not saved — a completed inspection belongs in the employer’s records, not in a browser.
